I completed my DONA www.dona.org/ (Doulas of North America) approved training in February 2016. With a degree in theatre and 20+ years working in retail, it was thanks to the birth of my son and my doula that changed the trajectory of my life. Birth changes you; no truer words were ever spoken.
The first birth I attended as a doula was May 5th, 2016, with a lovely first-time family. They originally were going to take me along with a more experienced doula but later told me "It's our first birth, it's your first birth. Let's just do it together." The level of gratitude I have for that family, the trust they put in me, and the beautiful baby they birthed, it reaffirmed that I was right where I needed to be. It was just more fuel to my fire.
In the fall of 2016, I enrolled in the doula internship program with the Minnesota Birth Center (theminnesotabirthcenter.com) spanning 9 months and a requirement of at least 6 births, I was eager to jump in, heart and soul first. I was given the option to extend my internship through the Summer of 2017, any opportunity to gain more experience, I'll take it! It wrapped up at the end of August 2017, 22 clients, each birth unique and forever in my memory. This program was exactly what was needed to gain birthing experience as well as reassure me time and again, birth after birth that this was right where I belonged.
I serve as a Member-at-large on the board of the Childbirth Collective (www.childbirthcollective.org,) a non-profit organizations of birth professionals. I completed my DONA certification in May 2018 and now proudly put CD(DONA) after my name. And I'm also in process of becoming a (www.lamazeinternational.org/) certified Childbirth Education teacher. Using humor, compassion, honesty and the freedom for you to do and say what feels right, I will help you find the birth path that you desire.
